It's been a while since the last update of A Second Chance, huh? It's been a wild ride for me, but I'm glad to finally be back. For those who weren't aware, I've been working on a rework of the game up until 0.4. It took just a liiiittle longer than expected. In this post I'll explain what's new with this update and why it took so long and such. But first, when does it release?

A Second Chance 0.4.5 will be out on July 27th, 05:00 PM UTC!

Some of you might have some questions, so let me answer a few here:

So what's new about this update?

• A huge part of the renders in the game has been redone in some way. Either just the lighting/shadows look better, or the render is completely different. You'll see the biggest changes in the first few updates, because those renders looked the worst. But you'll see some changes in 0.4 as well.
• The complete story has been tweaked. Don't worry though, the general story is almost completely the same. The biggest changes are small tweaks to some of the sentences to make them a bit better. Some places have a bit of extra story added as well.
• There's quite a bit of new content, a bunch of it in the beginning of the game, covering a lot of the 'one month time jump' that happened. So now you can see how you got to know everyone from the very start. Mia has quite a bit of new content, because I felt like she hasn't gotten much attention in the beginning. And from now on, Evelyn will be a fully romanceable character.
• Most animations have been redone, and new animations have been added to existing scenes. There's also an entirely new animated scene added to the game!
• The gui looks a lot better now. The menus have been adjusted slightly, I've added a new font for the text, there's a new page to see how many points you have with each girl, and most importantly... the game has an actual official logo!

Why'd it take so long?

I gotta admit, I greatly underestimated the time it would take to redo everything. Thought I could just rerender everything and add some stuff and be done. Big mistake. I ended up doing a lot of it from scratch which took a lot of time. As you'll be able to see in the pictures attached, some of the renders look a lot different. Luckily I had less and less to change as I went to the more recent renders. All of this wouldn't have been sooo bad, if only I didn't have hardware issues. My pc isn't as good as it used to be, so it kept shutting down randomly when working on the game, making me lose quite a bunch of progress.

Combine this with some personal things like work, exams, and family matters, and here we are. Not trying to make it sound like I'm making excuses, but just know that half the time I couldn't even work on the game.

Do I need to play this update?

Nope, you don't have to. Like I said, all of the stuff is mostly the same. Everything that has happened in 0.4 will still happen in 0.4.5. It still starts and ends the same way and everything. There'll be some story elements you'll miss for all of the girls, but nothing important for the main story. I'm not sure how compatible 0.4 will be with 0.5 though, since I'll continue building from 0.4.5, but I'll do my best to make sure there's no issues. But since it's been so long since the last update, now is the best time to replay the game to remember what happened!

I've attached a few previews of the upcoming update. These are some of the many examples of renders that I think look much better than the originals. I could've added more images, but I think you get the idea. Like I said, some of the renders haven't changed much other than a few tweaks like different lighting, and others look completely different.

I'm very sorry that this update took so long. I never intended for it to go this way. I also know that the communication from my side has been awful. I haven't been keeping up with Patreon and Discord like I should have. My sincerest apologies for that. I'll try to do better from now on.

I hope you'll still join me on my journey onwards. I'm very excited to start working on 0.5, and I've done a little bit of work already. I promise it won't take even half as long as this one for it to be finished ;)
